Application for Exemption from Differential Tuition Fees (International Students from Outside Europe)

Are you a non-European international student wishing to be exempt from additional tuition fees? At Université Grenoble Alpes, we are committed to continuing to welcome all international students without any extra surcharges across most of our training programs.
What the new decree on tuition fees at Université Grenoble Alpes changes
Since 2019, international students from outside the European Union have been paying higher tuition fees. A new decree published in May 2026 modifies the rules allowing universities to grant tuition fee waivers to international students.

At Université Grenoble Alpes, we are supporting this change with a transition year in 2026-2027, before implementing a system focused on supporting international students, inclusion, and success starting from the 2027-2028 academic year.

Who is affected?

Differentiated tuition fees are a French government policy that increases tuition costs for international students from countries outside the European Union, the European Economic Area, or Switzerland who are enrolling for the first time in a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral program at a French public university. 

How do you apply for an exemption from differential fees based on your circumstances?

  • If you would like to apply for a training program through the eCandidat application
    You will find the application form for a waiver of the tiered fees directly in the application package. Simply fill it out and attach it to your online application.
  • If you have already submitted your application via the eCandidat app, the “Études en France” (Campus France) process, or as part of the preliminary admission application (DAP)
    If your applicationis accepted, you will need to contact the registrar’s office at your school, college, or institute so they can send you the exemption request form. You must then complete and return the form before enrolling.

Rules Specific to Certain Schools

If your program is affiliated with the École nationale supérieure d'architecture de Grenoble - UGA or a school within Grenoble INP - UGA, the conditions for exemptions are different.
