The Battery and Energy Storage Industries: Skills Supporting the Energy Transition
At the heart of the energy transition, batteries have become essential to electric mobility, renewable energy storage, and industrial transformation. Driven by investments from France 2030, the sector is growing rapidly and giving rise not only to new professions but also to new skill requirements.
Are you interested in science, energy, and new technologies?
Discover a program that will allow you to contribute to the energy transition, from research to industrialization.
Batteries are now used in a wide range of fields, from electric vehicles to renewable energy storage, as well as in electronic devices and new forms of mobility. Their development addresses environmental, scientific, and industrial challenges: reducing transportation-related emissions, storing renewable energy, improving performance, and strengthening the sector’s competitiveness.
Battery development involves numerous technological challenges: increasing energy density, improving cell lifespan and safety, optimizing manufacturing processes, and developing solutions for reuse and recycling. Mastering materials and processes is also a strategic priority, given the context of international competition and access to critical resources.
From technicians to engineers, this sector encompasses a wide variety of professions and skills. Chemistry, electrochemistry, materials science, process engineering, electronics, computer science, energy, and industrial engineering: all of these fields contribute to the design, manufacture, integration, testing, and recycling of batteries.
Training for careers in the battery industry means helping to accelerate the energy transition and develop energy storage solutions!
At Université Grenoble Alpes, our programs prepare students for careers in the battery sector across various fields: from electrochemistry and materials to process engineering, energy, and industrial engineering.
Process Engineering Technician
Helps develop and optimize the processes used to manufacture components and batteries. He or she conducts tests, monitors manufacturing parameters, and helps improve the quality, performance, and safety of the processes.
Electrochemistry/Battery Engineer
Designs and develops batteries by focusing on their operation, performance, and lifespan. In particular, he or she studies the materials and electrochemical reactions within the cells to improve their storage capacity, safety, and reliability.
Materials Engineer
Develops and characterizes the materials used in batteries to improve their properties and performance. He or she selects the most suitable materials, studies their behavior, and contributes to the development of new solutions for energy storage.
