The Student Life and Campus Fee (CVEC)

Before enrolling in college, you must pay the CVEC. This is a fee collected by the Crous that helps fund projects to improve your living and learning conditions, such as artistic and athletic events or prevention initiatives.

Good to Know

For the 2026–2027 academic year, the CVEC fee is €105.

Who is responsible for paying the CVEC?

As a general rule, all students who enroll in a higher education institution in France must pay it. This also applies if you are an apprentice.

However, there are certain situations in which you are exempt from paying it:
  • You are a student in a BTS program, an arts and crafts diploma program, or an accounting program, and you are studying at a high school or in a rural family home.
  • You are enrolled in a continuing education program (work-study program or professional training contract).
  • You are an international exchange student in France (such as through Erasmus+), and you do not need to complete any administrative registration that requires a fee in France.

Who is exempt from this requirement?

Even though this is a mandatory requirement, you don't necessarily have to pay it. You may be exempt from the CVEC if:
  • You receive a need-based scholarship or a specific annual grant.
  • You have refugee status.
  • You are eligible for subsidiary protection.
  • You are an asylum seeker and have the right to remain in France.
If you are a scholarship recipient and your case is handled by the CROUS, your exemption will be automatic.

If you paid the CVEC even though you should have been exempt, don't worry: you can request a refund by a certain date, usually by May 31 of the current year.

How do I go about this?

You need to take care of the CVEC Before you register for your training course.
  1. Visit the website cvec.etudiant.gouv.fr.
  2. Log in to your student account and follow the instructions.
  3. Download your certificate.
Warning

Whether or not you are exempt from the CVEC, you must obtain your CVEC certificate. You will be asked to provide this document to complete your university registration.
