Studying Abroad on Your Own

It is possible to study abroad without going through a university exchange program. Whether you want to fully immerse yourself in a new culture, choose a specific university that is not a partner of the Université Grenoble Alpes, or simply organize your experience from A to Z on your own, this personal endeavor can be a unique and enriching adventure.

What You Need to Know Before You Get Started

  • You should contact the foreign university you are interested in, or the cultural office of that country's embassy, directly to obtain all the necessary information on the steps you need to take.
  • During your stay, you will no longer be enrolled at the Université Grenoble Alpes. You will be considered a full-time student at the foreign university you have chosen, and it is that institution that will award your degree.
  • If you go abroad outside of an exchange program, you will not be eligible for mobility grants offered by the Université Grenoble Alpes.
