Have you already completed studies or training—in France or abroad—and would you like to have them recognized toward a new degree without having to return to school? The Validation of Higher Education (VES) program allows you to have your studies recognized, whether they were completed at a public or private institution or training organization, in France or abroad, regardless of the format or duration.
What are the eligibility requirements?
You must have degrees, certifications, or training that are related to the degree you are pursuing.
How many times can you apply for a VES?
Per calendar year, you can:
Submit only one VES application for the same degree.
Submit up to three VES applications if you are pursuing different degrees.
How much does it cost?
At Université Grenoble Alpes, The VES is free, with the exception of the degrees offered by the schools of Grenoble INP, UGA, and the Institute of Engineering and Management.
How do I apply for a VES?
Here are the steps to follow:
1. Choose your degree
The first step is to identify the university degree that best matches your academic background or training.
If you have foreign degrees, it is advisable to contact the ENIC-NARIC office in advance to obtain a certificate of comparability.
2. Prepare your application
Once you have chosen a degree program, you will need to put together a complete application. It must clearly demonstrate the connection between your previous studies and the degree you wish to earn.
A summary of your high school, college, and professional background.
A detailed analysis of the knowledge and skills you have acquired.
Copies of all your diplomas, certificates, and other documents that may help the selection committee evaluate your background.
3. Review of Your Application
Your application will then be forwarded to the faculty member in charge of the degree program you are applying for. He or she will provide an initial assessment of the feasibility of your request.
Favorable decision:
You can proceed with the process and register at Université Grenoble Alpes by paying the registration fees.
Rejection notice:
That concludes the process for you. However, the advisor in charge may be able to provide you with guidance on another program or resuming your studies.
4. Jury Deliberation
If your application is accepted, it will be reviewed by a selection committee. The committee may, if it deems it necessary, interview you to better understand your background.
The jury will decide the scope of the validation: it may be full or partial. It may also provide you with advice on how to proceed.
5. Validation Decision
After the jury has deliberated, the school principal will send you an official document. There are three possible outcomes:
Full accreditation:
You receive the degree directly.
Partial completion:
You have completed part of the degree, but you will need to take courses to complete the rest.
Rejection:
Your request has been denied.
6. Monitoring of supplemental courses
If your degree is only partially completed, you will need to take additional courses and pass the exams to earn your full degree. These are referred to as "requirements." You will then be required to pay:
College tuition.
The cost of the additional courses you will be required to take.
A consulting engineer specializing in continuing education can help you plan this new course of study.
