ETC Detention and Training

Training
An Introduction to the French Prison System, Viewed Through the Lens of Various Disciplines (Law, Education, the Arts, etc.).

The topics covered will relate to the deprivation of liberty in France, the purpose of punishment, and prospects for reintegration after prison through the connection between incarceration and education. How can we learn more about incarceration today—its constraints, the opportunities it may offer inmates, and life, education, and work in prison? Students’ theoretical understanding of these issues will be combined with the development of a training program for inmates at Varces, focusing in particular on themes that are pervasive in incarceration, such as violence between women and men, inequalities, discrimination, respect, and “peaceful relationships.”
