Status as a High-Level Athlete-Student

High-level student-athlete status provides access to special support measures for pursuing higher education, thereby enabling students to balance their studies and athletic careers under the best possible conditions.

The Legal Framework

Support measures are enshrined in law for athletes who are granted elite athlete status (students on the Ministry of Sports’ “elite athlete” or “prospect” lists, and athletes under contract with a professional club). These measures are outlined in a Ministerial Circular dated January 30, 2023.

Requirements for Obtaining Elite Athlete Status

Automatic Admission

You are here:
  • Listed on the Ministry of Youth and Sports' roster of elite athletes (junior, senior, elite, and career transition).
  • Listed on the prospect and training partner rosters.
  • Under an agreement with a training center affiliated with a professional club or directly with a professional club.
  • A member of a center of excellence or a development center that is accredited and included in your sports federation’s Federal Performance Program.
You automatically receive high-level student athlete status if you request it when registering at the Université Grenoble Alpes.

Admission Based on Criteria

Are you not registered on these lists, or is your sport not recognized by the Ministry of Sports, but you compete at the national level, show great potential, and have demanding training requirements?

In an effort to broaden access to the status of elite athlete and thereby enable a greater number of students to simultaneously pursue a high-level athletic career and a university education, certain students may be recognized by higher education institutions in Grenoble that are members of the University Committee for Elite Sports (CUSHN) as elite student-athletes.

Your Application for High-Level Student-Athlete Status

The campaign to apply for status for the 2026–2027 academic year is completed.

If, for some reason exceptional and justified, if you haven't yet applied for status for the 2026–2027 academic year, you can send a message to publics-besoins-specifiques@univ-grenoble-alpes.fr. You will need to provide a reason for the delay. Given that your request was submitted late, we will contact you at a later date.

Note:
  • The high-level student athlete status is granted for a single academic year. When re-enrolling at Université Grenoble Alpes, you must therefore renew your status request as early as possible (for the 2027-2028 campaign, the platform will open in December 2027. You must submit a request before June 2027).
  • Please note: your request for high-level student athlete status does not replace your application to enroll at the Université Grenoble Alpes. You must simultaneously apply to the program of your choice (via Parcoursup, eCandidat, competitive examination, application file, etc., depending on the chosen program).
