The University Training and Coaching Center (CUFE) for Track and Field

The Athletics University Training and Coaching Center (CUFE) is one of the 7 CUFEs at Université Grenoble Alpes. This specific support program is based on a unique partnership between the university and the sports community, offering high-level student athletes optimal training and recovery conditions close to their place of study.

To help them balance high-level sports with higher education, high-level student-athletes (SHN) at the CUFE benefit from an exceptional support program.

Tailored educational support

Theeducational support The SHN student program is offered in all academic programs at the University of Grenoble-Alpes (Université Grenoble Alpes , UGA) and its three constituent institutions: Grenoble INP - UGA, Sciences Po Grenoble - UGA, and the École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Grenoble - UGA. This allows athletes to choose their program of study based on their interests and career goals, rather than by default based on the programs that happen to be available.

The academic support program is structured around the athletes’ athletic commitments. It is also personalized: each SHN student is supported by an SHN advisor and a faculty coordinator in their field of study. They may also receive assistance from an academic advisor who specializes in supporting SHN students and a social support privileged.

Optimized training conditions

The CUFEs are the result of a partnership between the federal sports community and the academic community. They are based on the pooling of resources: the university provides sports facilities, while the sports community (federations, leagues, committees, and clubs) provides technical staff and coaches. This partnership enables every SHN student to benefit from highly qualified coaching, high-quality sports facilities, and a close geographical proximity between their place of study and their training locations (training pool and weight room on campus). This proximity minimizes time lost to commuting and promotes success in pursuing both academic and athletic goals.

CUFE members can also benefit from a scientific approach to training: learning mental skills, isokinetic testing, energy system power testing, and more…

Enhanced medical and paramedical care

SHN students at the CUFE have access to a comprehensive and enhanced sports medicine program, ranging from treatment for injuries to initiatives designed to create the conditions for athletic performance. They can undergo a thorough medical examination, followed by ongoing monitoring, and are guaranteed a medical consultation within 24 hours. They also have access to a physical therapy clinic for emergency care, recovery treatments (cold water baths, saunas, drainage boots), or rehabilitation, for a total of 15 hours per week.

Join the CUFE Track and Field Team

The CUFE Track and Field program is the result of a joint effort between the UGA and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Track and Field League and the club supports theGrenoble 38 Athletic Association. It is intended for national or international-level athletes who have the status of high-level student-athletes. Eligibility for this status is determined by athletic criteria, both on and off the field.

The CUFE Track and Field program offers training sessions led by experienced coaches on the Saint-Martin-d’Hères campus or at dedicated facilities in Grenoble (Bachelard Stadium) or Meylan (Île d’Amour).

Regardless of the athletes’ geographic origin, the CUFE allows students to continue competing at a high level in track and field while remaining members of their clubs and to successfully complete their academic programs under the best possible conditions.

Martial Auzeil

Coach at CUFE Athletics since its founding. Specialties: throwing events, combined events, and physical conditioning

"I coach a group of college athletes and/or members of the local club, EAG-38, consisting of specialists in combined events, throws, and jumps. I manage the training schedule, physical conditioning, and technical work, which may be shared with other coaches. The success of the dual program and the health of all athletes are our two main priorities. The numerous titles, podium finishes, national team selections, and academic degrees earned demonstrate the effectiveness of our close collaboration with the SHN university program."

SHN student in the first year of the STAPS-LAS program (UFR STAPS), U20 international in the 400-meter hurdles

"I am a member of the GrésiAthlé club. I joined the CUFE in 2020 when I started my two-year Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science (L1 STAPS-LAS). As a 400-meter hurdler, trained at the CUFE by Florian Monnier, I earned my first selection to the French national team in 2021 by finishing as a semifinalist at the U20 European Championships. I particularly appreciate the use of emergency or passive recovery slots at physical therapy clinics."
