Are you involved in activities outside of your studies? Whether it's a job, volunteer work, or a caregiving role, please note that at Université Grenoble Alpes, we can recognize and support your commitment through the engaged student status.

You are eligible for this status if, in addition to your studies, you:
  • A reservist.
  • A volunteer firefighter.
  • An employee with a contract of at least 3 months and working at least 10 hours per week, which applies during the academic term and exam periods.
  • A student performingcivic service.

What kinds of renovations are possible?

The status of a committed student allows you to better balance your studies with your other responsibilities.

Depending on your situation and what is available through your program, you may be able to receive certain accommodations, such as:
  • A flexible schedule (choice of tutorial or lab groups).
  • Justified (occasional) absences.
  • An exemption from attendance requirements for certain courses.
  • Spreading out your coursework over a longer period of time.

What are the bonuses?

Depending on the type of commitment you make—and if your program’s academic regulations allow it—your involvement may be recognized. This means you can receive a bonus on your overall grade, up to 0.5 points.

The bonus does not apply:
  • To students who work.
  • To family caregivers.
  • To the elected officials of local governments.

How do I apply for active student status?

Applications for Student Soldier Status are done online.

Your application will then be reviewed by your academic unit (faculty, school, or institute). That unit will make the final decision based on the rules of your program.

The first application period for student status—for the first semester of the 2026–2027 academic year or for the full 2026–2027 academic year—is open from August 25, 2026, through October 19, 2026.

Warning

If you would like to make adjustments to your schedule, please submit your request for special status by mid-September.
