Futur Prod aims to be a leader in the development of sustainable organizations and technologies for the industry of the future, with the goal of inventing new modes of production and consumption. This program trains experts in industrial and mechanical engineering, materials science, and economics who will contribute to sustainable production through an open, multidisciplinary approach.

The goal of this program is to train a new generation of scientists capable of leveraging digital opportunities to steer European industrial production systems toward more sustainable models that incorporate human development and environmental concerns. The topics covered relate to technological innovations and new materials, industrial engineering and new organizational methods, economic analysis, organizational change, and business transformation.

This program trains experts in industrial and mechanical engineering, materials science, and economics who will contribute to sustainable production through an open, multidisciplinary approach. Students develop knowledge in their own specialty (industrial/mechanical engineering, materials science, or economics) and through multidisciplinary courses that help them understand the transition to sustainable production. Internships in research laboratories (3 ECTS credits in the first year of the master’s program, followed by one semester in the second year) immerse students in high-level research practices and environments.

How to Apply

Courses are taught in French or English, depending on the specific master’s program. The courses in the thematic program are taught in English.

Course Units (UE) in the Thematic Program

  • An orientation event at the beginning of the first semester. An introduction to research laboratories, including scientific topics and experimental facilities. An introduction to shared research facilities in Grenoble. An introduction to the work of young researchers in the field.
  • Multidisciplinary Course 1 (Semester 7): Challenges of the Production Transition. To share insights into the key challenges of the transition to sustainable production from the perspectives of industrial and mechanical engineering, materials science, and economics.
  • Multidisciplinary Course 2 (Semester 8): AI Methods for Research in Production Systems. Data-driven techniques are new research methods of great interest. This course explores these methods and their applications in research in industrial engineering, materials science, and economics.
  • Specialized Introductory Course 3 (Semester 9): A course focused on industrial engineering, materials science, or economics. The course offerings may change each year based on the latest research findings and visiting professors. It brings together master’s and doctoral students.
  • Summer School (Semester 10): Multidisciplinary Education and Research. At the end of the program, the summer schools bring together M1 and M2 master’s students and doctoral candidates for discussions on research and educational practices in a multidisciplinary environment.
