Reach: Research and Creation, Collaborative Practices in the Arts and History

Arts, performance, history, literature, languages, creative research, hands-on workshops, artist residencies, set design, installations, collaborative production
The REACH program aims to train French and international students who wish to become researchers in creative research. REACH offers a unique interdisciplinary approach that bridges the arts, history, literature, and languages. The program, designed as a minor, will complement existing master’s programs with experimental forms of collaborative work (exhibitions, films, performances, digital museums, creative writing, etc.) that will enrich the exchange of knowledge and expertise between the university and society. Courses will be taught primarily in French.

Course Units (UE) in the Thematic Program

Master's Degree (Year 1)

  • Course: Methodological Approach (3 ECTS), S7
This course aims to introduce students to the methods of creative research and “performance as research” (PAR) and “practice as research,” which have been developed since the 1990s. It draws on the CDP Performance Lab’s glossary of creative research, delving deeper into the epistemological and methodological issues of creative research in artistic practice.
  • Practical Workshop (3 ECTS), S7
This course introduces students to artistic practices and creative tools (drawing, sound, video, performance, etc.) through collaborative creative workshops.
  • Thematic Seminar (6 ECTS), S8
This seminar aims to provide a theoretical and practical framework that complements the instruction offered in the “Methodological Approaches” course and the practical workshop leading up to the final exhibition in the Master’s 2 program. Students will be guided to reflect on an issue related to their cohort’s thematic focus.

Master 2

  • Methodological Approach Course (3 ECTS), S9
This course focuses on applying the creative research skills acquired in the first year of the master’s program in the Methodological Approaches course. Students are asked to devise their own protocol based on the models studied in the first year of the master’s program.
  • Practical Workshop (3 ECTS), S9
This course builds on the Master 1 workshop and allows students to deepen their knowledge of practical tools (drawing, sound, video, performance, etc.) in connection with the development of their final creative project and through collaborative creative workshops.
  • Artist-in-Residence Program (6 ECTS), S10
The Artist-in-Residence Program establishes research protocols, develops the exhibition design, and oversees the production of a group exhibition.
